“I was so used to describing myself as a Russian. I equated being Russian with being Soviet. I discounted both my Jewish and Ukrainian identities. Why? Because I was brainwashed when I was a child. But in fact, I am not Russian. I am Jewish, Ukrainian and Australian.”
Jordana Daumec was born in New York City. She trained at Studio Maestro in New York City and Canada’s National Ballet School. Jordana joined The National Ballet of Canada as an RBC Apprentice in 2003 and was promoted to First Soloist in 2015.
My chosen people, with whom I build community, are Black and queer and woman and sister and artist. My people are feminist, and pro-Black and anti-racist, and co-creating ways to dismantle capitalism in all its manifestations.
