The Monstrous-Feminine in Jewish Tradition

What stories does Jewish tradition tell about women who challenge boundaries? Eve, punished for desiring knowledge by having her reproductive capacity become a source of pain, and Lilith, who chose to leave Eden rather than be subservient to Adam, might well represent two aspects within each of us. The reconciliation between them might be what we need to change a culture in which women who speak out about being abused are immediately accused of being abusive, or where, for example, women writing a book might be considered to be neglecting their family responsibilities. In a compelling presentation, Arielle Levites explores these and more in one of three webinars on “Judaism, #MeToo and Ethical Leadership” offered by the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. hartman.org.il
