Jewish Women Watching

Jewish Women Watching, the Guerilla Girls of the Jewish world, have added political buttons and postcards to their resolutely iconoclastic repertoire. Visit jewishwomenwatching.com to discover that the Jewish voices you hear quoted in the mainstream press don’t often speak these opinions.

The first High Holidays message from Jewish Women Watching, four years ago, consisted of cards declaring “Sexism Is a Sin.” This year they address the U.S. presidential election. The group operates anonymously, “to focus attention on the issues—not ourselves,” so part of the charm of communicating with these women by email is seeing whose name appears at the bottom of the reply. Some correspondence comes over the name of such deceased Jewish female activists as Ernestine Rose; the latest missive was signed “Yours in sisterhood. Rose Schneiderman for JWW.”
