Documentary to Record Jewish Farm Life

“A Salute to New Jersey Jewish Farmers,” a fundraising event to generate funding for the film “The Land Was Theirs,” was held in April in Lakewood, New Jersey. The film, which illustrates the diversity of Jewish experience in American history, is being produced by Documentary III, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving a record of ethnic rural communities, especially Jewish communities.

Gertrude Dubrovsky the president of Documentary III, grew up in the Jewish agricultural community of Farmingdale, New Jersey. She has written many scholarly articles on the American Jewish agricultural experience. The documentary is to include an interview with Bluma Purmell, now over 100 years old, the first child to be born in the community of Alliance, New Jersey which was established in 1888.
